WWW Wednesday (week two of being a day late)

WWW WednesdayThis weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. It’s open to all to participate. Why not join in and let us know what’s on your reading list this week…

To join in, just answer the following three questions…
• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m currently reading…

18602569Cry of the Peacock by V.R. Christensen. This is a period romance set in the Victorian era whose heroine Arabella Gray has been invited to live with her father’s old overlords, the Crawfords. Abbie has no connections or wealth, but the head of the Crawford household has designs for her to marry his oldest son Ruskin for an as-of-yet unknown gain. Will she follow the practical course and marry Ruskin, who has the power and money to make her a lady, or will she follow her heart and moral compass away from this knave? As of yet, this is a bit of a slow read, but I am enjoying Abbie’s quicker mind as compared to other women of the same genre. The Crawford brothers are fun to read about as they bicker, also.

I recently finished…

18635016…Kiera Cass’s The One,  book three in The Selection Series. This is the last book in the sequence of Maxon and America’s love story, when America competes with 34 other women for the heart and hand of the crown prince. Political turmoil from the rebels to the crown is forcing Maxon’s decision process, and America needs to shape up and become princess material so that no one can tell Maxon that they shouldn’t be together. These books are a little young for me (I know, I know, it’s a young adult book), but still a fun and quick read. I was rooting for America from the beginning, of course, so seeing this series to the end was gratifying. My only issue is the “Bachelor-esque” competition that annoys my girl-powerness.

Next, I’ll be reading…

25972177.jpg…Anthony Ryan’s The Waking Firefirst book of the much-anticipated Draconis Memoria Series. This takes place in a steampunk/fantasy world, where certain people have the ability to drink drake blood (think dragons but smaller and more vicious) and gain supernatural powers from it. This is a multiple-perspective shift, which I love because it greatly aids in world-build. And I have a mild obsession with all things dragon, so yay!  I received this as an ARC from Penguin’s First To Read, a group that I highly recommend for unreleased content as long as you are up on your reviewer cred.

That’s all for now, folks! What are you reading???
